In July of 1967,
under the supervision
of Superintendent Charles Brazzer of the Roseville
Police Department the Roseville Police Reserves were
formed with the purpose to support the Roseville Police
Department upon request.
In the beginning the
uniform consisted of a blue work shirt and trousers with
a sewn on patch. A night-stick was the only weapon
carried at that time and the reserve officers were used
to watch over the election voting booths and for parade
Watch.
In 1968 Raymond Hartley
became the unit Liaison Officer and a small budget was
approved to provide uniforms and badges. The reserves
began weapons training as well as training in first aid
and CPR.
In the early 70's the
reserve unit was placed under the supervision of Officer
George Montgomery as Liasion Officer with Reserve
Officer Robert Guthrie as Unit Commander. By the mid
70's supervision was transferred to Officer Tom Asman as
Liaison Officer. Under Officer Asman's leadership the
police department soon learned how flexible the reserve
unit was and imparted additional training and Watch
assignments to the unit. Officer Asman went on to be
promoted to the position of Roseville Police Chief.
Following Chief Asman,
Officer George Schafer took over the duties of Liaison
Officer of the reserve unit. Officer Schafer held the
position for many years until retiring in 1995 as Lt.
Schafer. Upon Lt. Schafer's retirement Sgt. Dave Taylor
took the position of Liaison Officer which he held until
his retirement in Dec 1999. Lt. Mike Paqula took over
the position of Liaison Officer on January 1, 2000. By
April 2000, Lt. Paqula was promoted to deputy chief and
Lt. Don Pascoe assumed the responsibilities of Reserve
Liaison Officer. In December 2000 Lt. Pascoe assumed new
duties with the department and turned the reins over to
Lt. Tom Suminski.
